Soon after returning to the Netherlands from Australia the Uiver was sent on a special Christmas mail flight to Batavia (Jakarta). On the night of 20 December 1934, on the leg from Cairo to Baghdad, flying in bad weather, the aircraft crashed in the Syrian Desert near Rutbah Wells in western Iraq. All on board were killed.
The four KLM crew were Willem Beekman (Captain), Jan van Steenbergen (First Officer), Hendrik Waalewijn (Flight Engineer) and Gysbert van Zadelhoff (Radio Telegraphist). The three passengers were Professor Eduard Walch, Dominique Berretty, and Jacobus Kort.
